The Princess Royal and the Queen's only daughter is one of the hardest working members of the royal family (And also our favorite character in the Crown.) So it's no surprise that her wardrobe is full of investment pieces she has been rewearing since as far back as the 1970s when she was in her 20s. But even though she's practical and holds onto her clothes for years, it's not all beige coat dresses for her. An under-appreciated style icon of the royal family, Princess Anne is certainly not one to shy away from bright colors or bold patterns.

FUR TRIM COAT

We first saw Princess Anne in this light blue, fur-lined coat in 1976 when the royal was just in her 20’s. Since then she has worn it to countless weddings and Christmas day services, paired with boots and a hat, of course. It’s last jaunt was in 2012.

CREAM AND NAVY COAT

Similar to us with the philosophy that Less is More, Princess Anne invested in quality pieces that she could wear throughout the years. Her cream and navy coat has made an appearance at derbies, Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey. What a life it has lived since she first donned it in 1980!

emerald blouse

Princess Anne loves a pussy bow blouse as much as the rest of us. She has worn this emerald green one under a go-to skirt suit set between 1991 and 2019. Talk about a staple.

golden hat and jacket

Princess Anne has been pairing this golden topper and double-breasted coat for events in the 80’s and 2000’s. We clearly see the royal wears her outfits on a rotational basis, and with a schedule like hers we don’t blame her.

royal blue gown

While no one is wearing ball gowns right now unless dancing around in our living rooms in a cheerful game of dress up, Princess Anne certainly has her go to pick if a ball pops up! Royal blue with large shoulders, this was undoubtedly debuted in the 80’s, but the Princess brought it out again a decade later. Hey, if the shoe fits!

violet combo

It is clearly without doubt that Princess Anne loves a good coat moment. And this violet number with matching hat has made over five public appearances. It does suit her well.

glasses galor

Princess Anne has a thing for these glasses. She favors the sporty, Matrix-inspired shades that seem to have come back into fashion as of late. Although, the Princess has been wearing them for decades.

BARBOUR JACKET

We aren’t always so lucky as to see the royals in their casual wear. But, Princess Anne’s love of horses and the outdoors has given us many of sighting of the royal in beloved Barbour jackets. Weatherproof, warm and chic, these coats are definitely timeless staples.

all hail the headscarf

Princess Anne loves a headscarf. In fact, her character as portrayed in The Crown nearly always wears one. It truly is the perfect accessory for a windy, rainy English day.
